REQUEST FOR EXPRESSION

OF INTEREST FOR SECTOR STRATEGY DEVELOPMENT

Government of Pakistan, via Small and Medium Enterprise Development Authority (SMEDA), seeks proposals to support development of Leather and Sports goods sectors in Pakistan. Since 2004, SMEDA, in partnership with an international donor has been working with key sectors in the Pakistan economy to upgrade their comprehensive in regional and international markets.

The purpose of this project is to assist the Leather and Sports Goods sectors in Pakistan to reposition for long term competitiveness in world markets translating into a quantum leap in exports. The focus of this initiative will be on catalyzing action among the public and private sector leaders, with an emphasis on transferring skills, networks, tools, working methods, joint ventures and technical collaboration.

The short-listed firm will work with business leaders, industry associations, Govt officials and other major stakeholders to conduct a comprehensive diagnostic study based on benchmarking with leading international players, as well as propose a detailed sector development strategy and roadmap for its implementation. The key to achieve the objectives will be to engage industry and governmental leadership to catalyze the initiatives and create a sense of ownership by the sector leaders and to create momentum within the sectors.

SMEDA invites interested companies/firms with a proven track record and credible international linkages, to indicate their interest in providing the above-mentioned services. The successful firm will work in partnership with SMEDA for a period of 12 months with sector leadership, to design and implement strategies that result in quantifiable improvements in each sector's performance.
