INVITATION FOR INTERNATIONAL COMPETITIVE BIDS
FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF BRIDGE OVER RIVER JHELUM AT DHANGALI
- Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA)
invites sealed bids from reputed international contractors for the
Constru0ction of Bridge over River Jhelum at Dhan Gali which is part of Mangla
Dam Raising Project. International contractors may bid individually or in
joint venture with Pakistani contractors. The post tensioned concrete box
girder bridge is 340m long having three spans with middle span of 170m and is
to be constructed by cast-in-situ cantilever segmental construction method.
All the 56 piles for the right pier and 16 piles out of 56 piles for the left
pier have been constructed by the previous contractor. The preferred
construction period is one and a half (1 1/2) year but the bidders may offer
their firm construction period. Due wightage will be given to the offered
shorter construction period in bid evaluation. The bidders may submit
alternative proposals for the same type of bridge with modification in
construction methods and nay attendant revision in design and specifications
or other conditions that offer any advantage to the Employer or other suitable
alternatives that save time of construction. The bidders may also propose
other type of bridge on Design and Build basis provided they can offer
significant time saving which will be the prime consideration.
- The subsurface geological conditions investigated
through drilling has revealed that the rock as this site comprises alternate
beds of sandstone and shales. The sandstone is grey, medium soft to medium
hard, moderately cemented and moderately to highly fractured and jointed. The
shales are maroon, soft to medium soft and highly weathered and disintegrated
at the surface. The thickness of shales at right abutment is more compared to
that at left abutment. The right abutment rocks are steeply dipping and dip
direction is towards river. The dip of the left abutment rocks in is milder
and away from the river face.
- The bidders should have participated as international
contractor and successfully completed at least 2 projects of similar nature,
size and costing at least US$ 20 million or equivalent cash in the last ten
(10) years. The bidders capabilities would be assessed through post
qualification process.
- A complete set of Bidding Documents may be purchased by
interested eligible bidders from the office the Member (Water) WAPDA,
706-Wapda House, Lahore (Phone 042-9202226, Fax 042-9202485) on submission of
written application and payment of a non-refundable fee of Rupees five
thousand (Rs. 5000/-) or US$ 200.
- All bids must be accompanied by a Bid Security as call
deposit or Bank guarantee equivalent to a minimum of 2% of the Bid Price and
must be delivered to the Member (Water) WAPDA, 706-Wapda House, Lahore at or
before 1100 hours, on 14th July 2008. Bids will be opened at 1130 hours on the
same date in the presence of bidders' representatives who choose to attend.
- WAPDA reserves the right to accept or reject any or all
the bids without assigning any reason.
